Tony is your local building inspector for Rolleston, Christchurch, New Zealand.

Tony’s career began in the Army in 1995, where he worked as a Chef. From there he began studies in information systems, which lead to his role as a data communications engineer. It wasn’t until 2007 that Tony discovered his passion for building, working as a carpenter within the Army.  Utilising the training and opportunities provided by the Army,  Tony trained to become a Licensed Building Practitioner and completed a range of residential and semi-commercial jobs.

Tony’s role in the Army gave him far more than just construction skills, training him in business management, staff coordination, project management and planning. His drive and success lead him to becoming the Site Foreman for the Royal NZ Airforce Marae build at the Ohakea Airforce base. Tony was also a Health and Safety co-coordinator at 3 Field Squadron in Burnham Military Camp. It was this role in particular that helped Tony discover his passion for safety, and consequently his decision to become one of our first New Zealand based Jim’s Building Inspectors.

Tony’s combination of building, management and communication skills gained in the Army positioned him perfectly within our Jim’s Building Inspections team. Before joining Jim’s, Tony was looking to develop a work life balance and spend more time with his wife and children. He chose to join Jim’s as this would allow him to continuing using his knowledge, skills and passion whilst being able to spend more time at home.

When he’s not out on a job, you’ll find Tony at the beach, trekking the outdoors or cheering on his children at their sporting and school events. He is also a keen sports person who has played both Rugby and Rugby League at a national level!

FUN FACT: Tony has traveled all over the world with the Army. His most memorable trip was spending 4 months in Antarctica where he worked as the foreman for a small group of carpenters. His Building Inspector side was enthralled by a visit to Scott’s Hutt at McMurdo – the Hutt was structurally in pristine condition and had been preserved forever in time. One day he would love to return and do inspections in Antarctica!
